In order to inspire myself when producing my two ‘Appropriation’ images whilst confirming to my brief, I decided to conduct internet research. I discovered Greek digital designer and illustrator Kostis Pavlou who creates quirky and abstract digital collages. Inspired vividly by the surrealism art movement Pavlov combines multiple images and illustrations using Photoshop to create complex pieces. I am inspired by her technique of combining old and new aspects of photography to create modern pieces (as seen below). Using vintage monochrome photographs captured during the early 1900’s I want to transform them into modern pieces, through Photoshop techniques such as layering. By layering old images with contemporary patterns and textures, I aim to transform the original images by modernising them, inspired by Pavlov’s work.
